Dr Jo-Anne S Ferreira is Academic Coordinator of CLLI 2008. She is a Lecturer in Linguistics at The University of the West Indies (UWI), St Augustine (2001 to the present) and a member of SIL International (1995 to the present). She received her PhD in linguistics in 1999 from The UWI (language obsolescence), where she also conducted her undergraduate studies (French and Linguistics). She is also the holder of the Diploma in French Studies (DELF), a postgraduate diploma in Brazilian Indigenous Languages and Linguistics from the Museu Nacional, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, and the IPA Certificate in English Phonetics. Her research interests and publications focus generally on contact linguistics and specifically on Caribbean Portuguese language and culture (http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~portwestind/), South American French-lexicon Creole varieties and Bible translation. Dr. Ferreira is currently Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the Society for Caribbean Linguistics (SCL), a post she has held since 2002. At present, she is a Visiting Research Fellow attached to the Jamaican Language Unit at the Mona campus of The University of the West Indies.
