CLLI 2008 Tuition and Housing Information

TOTAL COSTS

The approximate cost of the Institute programme is the equivalent of USD1,500.00 for UWI students, and USD3,800.00 for non-UWI students (final cost is subject to change). This includes tuition (two 3-credit courses), on-campus residence at Preston Hall based on double occupancy, and two meals (breakfast and dinner). This does not include the cost of lunch, books and course readers, travel health insurance, local field trips, or any optional travel expenses that non-Mona-based students may incur while in Jamaica.

N.B. The USD equivalent for UWI students for tuition fees (below) is subject to change, due to fluctuations in the exchange rate.  The calculations below are based on the rate of exchange as of 29 May 2008.

HOUSING

Students will be housed at A.Z. Preston Hall, 5 Port-of-Spain Way. 

Directions:
  • From the Post Office Gate, enter on Gibraltar Camp Way.  Turn right onto Gibraltar Hall Road (East).  Turn second left onto Kingstown Place.  Turn left onto Port-of-Spain Way.
  • From the Irvine Hall Gate, enter on Gibraltar Camp Way.  Take Castries Drive on first left, down to intersection with Gibraltar Hall Road (East).  Turn left onto Gibraltar Hall Road (East). Turn next left on to Kingstown Place. Turn left onto Port-of-Spain Way.
  • From the Main Gate, take the Queen's Way to intersection with the Ring Road. Cross over Ring Road and take sharp right onto Gibraltar Hall Road (West).  Cross over Ring Road and continue along Gibraltar Hall Road (West) to intersection with Gibraltar Camp Way.  Cross over Gibraltar Camp Way, straight ahead to Gibraltar Hall Road (East). Turn second left onto Kingstown Place.  Turn left onto Port-of-Spain Way.

MEALS             US$15 per day (2 meals - breakfast and dinner)

For lunch, students may choose from among various options (all located near to the Norman Manley Law School at 8, Ring Road, the site of CLLI 2008).  Click here for more details.

READERS 
          Approximately US$20 (or J$1,400) per reader available at the CLLI Secretariat.  Textbooks are available at the Bookshop.

FIELD TRIPS     Approximately US$35 (or J$2,500) for a day trip (these may be subsidised and will be required only for LING 221M and LING 3701).

OFF CAMPUS TRANSPORTATION
There is a free shuttle bus for students.  There are also private taxis, chartered taxis, Jamaican Urban Transit Company Ltd. (JUTC) buses and a variety of transportation options.
