Caribbean Dialectology

Lecturer: Prof. Lawrence Carrington

This is a flagship course of the UWI Linguistics programme.  It takes an in-depth look at the socio-historical background and development of Caribbean languages and dialects. It provides a detailed description and analysis of contemporary Caribbean Creole language structure. It examines theories of the Creole continuum, and pays some attention to the structure of other Caribbean languages, such as indigenous and immigrant languages.


Pre-requisite: EITHER LING 1401 and LING 1402 OR LING 1001 and L1002 AND any TWO of LING 2001, LING 2002, LING 2301, LING 2302
