LING 6901 (Celia Blake)

by Jo-Anne S Ferreira last modified June 24, 2008 10:53 PM

Language, Law and Society

Lecturer: Celia Blake

This course will review research on language in legal contexts, with a focus on the sociolinguistic analysis of spoken language. Particular attention will be paid to the ways in which an examination of language use can shed light on socio-legal concerns about the frequent failure of the legal system to deliver justice.  Emphasis will be placed on the needs of second language and second dialect speakers of English in the Caribbean, including the hearing impaired.

This course is available for auditing during CLLI 2008.  It may be available for credit.   Please indicate your interest in doing this course for credit by writing the Secretariat (clli2008 (a) uwimona.edu.jm).  It would be helpful to have a sociolinguistics course as background.
